Why do writers wear black?

Why do designers wear black? And musicians? Metal heads seem dependably guilty of this. Maybe there's a link.

Many metal heads are musicians, and musicians are technically writers. So therefore many metals heads could be writers. So then, why black?

Is it reflective of their tortured existence? Or an attempt to veil their pampered existence? Perhaps because it is slimming? Or maybe having extra wavelengths of light bounced around them distracts the creative part of their mind so they create their own black-hole of wavelengths?

I'm not very good at the things I do, so I make up for it by doing many things. I am a designer, I am a musician, I am a metal head, and therefore I am a writer. So why do I wear black? The answer is far less esoteric than you may expect.

I can spill water on the crotch of my pants and it won't look like I've pissed myself.

Valentine's Day

To those getting engaged today,

The idea of an engagement ring with a large diamond was heavily marketed by De Beers diamonds. This was when it was more common to lose your virginity during an engagement or after the wedding, as opposed to after 4 or 5 Smirnoff Blacks.

The larger diamond obviously equates to more money spent, which would supposedly prove the mans desire to stay with her and not just blow and go.
In effect, it was a bid on her virginity.

I hope you enjoy all the symbolisms embodied in this gesture. Not least the fact you are acknowledging that a woman's vagina has a price tag, a man's worth is judged by his credit rating and that taking out a $10k+ loan on something that can be accidentally swallowed is a sensible financial decision.

It makes all the children who died digging up that rock worth it for the pawnshop who will end up with the ring in 2-8 years.

Australia Day.

Australia is like the middle child of the world.
It isn't as old (in it's current form) as the US or UK, and have never had most of the world under its thumb like England did, or how America likes to act/does.
But it also isn't on the rise like Asia and the masses of developing countries.

We have always looked up to the USA and the UK for examples of policies we should take. The problem is both of those countries are now like the older son who borrowed too much from his parents for his drug habit and now resides under a bridge with a hairy aged man who called himself 'The Hammer'.

Australia is an awesome party - albiet with a few dickheads drinking other peoples drinks – but we are better than what we are aiming for and when we stop following in the failed footsteps of the last century's powers & failed ideas, and start make our own decisions, we can hopefully set the standard for other countries to follow.

Margaret Court; An opinion piece in the literal sense of the word

This is all the information that we are given at the conclusion of Court's opinion piece. And make no mistakes, it is so full of personal opinions there is very little room for facts. If you wish to read the piece, you may find it here.

I have decided to help Court by suppling correct and accurate information where required. My notes are in red.

Accordingly, with section 116 of Our constitution (you will find out more at my first note below), I have made any section which presents a moot argument towards the Australian people in italics.

WE live in a blessed nation but Australia is on a steep moral decline.

Everywhere you look we are making excuses for a sliding lifestyle and more people are blind to it than ever before.

Our Constitution is based on biblical principles and our nation is great because of it.

Here is section 116 of the Australian Constitution

116. The Commonwealth shall not make any law for establishing any religion, or for imposing any religious observance, or for prohibiting the free exercise of any religion, and no religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust under the Commonwealth

It does not matter if there is a majority religion, Australian's have the constitutional right to believe what they want.

We are a country with a moral fabric and families and marriage are at its core.

Moral fabric and families may be at our core, but as the Australian Bureau of Statistics can easily show marriage is not. Asides from a spike in 1998, the marriage rate has steadily dropped over time from 6.9 marriages per 1000 people in '90 to 5.3 in '10

But increasingly our kids are being taught that anything goes.

'As a society we are losing touch with fundamental Christian values, as our leaders lean towards an agenda of political correctness to keep the minorities happy.'

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Australia as a society are drifting away from Christian based religions. from '96 to '01 there was an only and overall increase of 8.1% in people who associate with Christianity, as opposed to figures such as a 79.1% increase in Buddhism, 40.2% increase in Islam and a 36.6% increase in no-religion.

Combined, the Christian faiths may hold the largest number of worshipers in total, but are not big enough to personify society's wishes. This statement is flaws as the Australian people are moving away from Christianity, not our leaders. Decreasing numbers of followers of the Christian faith are a matter for the Christian organisations, not the Australian people. 

We live in a world of moral values. Even those without faith know what is right and what is wrong. We all have a conscience and so many people get trapped in the pattern of saying something is right when deep down they know it isn't.

It's that attitude that can harden hearts. People suddenly justify the immoralities around them. We have taken the easy way out. Minorities are now making it harder for the majority. They are increasingly taking everything that is good in society and pushing it to the side.

Looking back, you can see that there has been a steep decline, especially when it comes to the issue of sexuality. There is so much scripture within the Bible that points to what we see happening now. We are losing that sense of discipline.

The only decline which definitively can be proven has been in church attendances, with some research suggesting people who attendend at least one religious ceremony a month is at 16% as opposed to 23% in 1993.

Let me be clear. I believe that a person's sexuality is a choice. In the Bible it said that homosexuality is among sins that are works of the flesh. It is not something you are born with. My concern is that we are advocating to young people that it is OK to have these feelings. But I truly believe if you are told you are gay from a young age, soon enough it will start to impact your life and you will live it. If somebody is told they are gay they often start to believe it.

There are countless studies into wether homosexuality is a choice or not. You can find some here, here and here. If you take time to flick through a couple, you will find that results vary. Ultimately, it appears that choice is not the only factor.

We are living in a society that takes the easy way out. But we have to work at life and make things better. You need to be disciplined. I became the first Australian woman to win Wimbledon because I trained hard and worked towards it.

Physical training and skills at tennis do not help validate your point. This is an unnecessary piece of information, an anecdote, and does not contribute to the argument.

It's why I believe so strongly in the sanctity of marriage. It takes hard work. Children need a mother and a father - stability from a male and a female - and I think we are losing sight of this.

You can believe that if you wish, but multiple research disproves this theory.

We are led by politicians who lie and spread deceit. They no longer stand true to their word and that affects us all, as a nation. Lies just don't seem to matter much any more.

There is so much deception in the world and it's getting worse by the minute. The Book of Romans speaks of the people of Earth trading in God; of worshipping life and things within it instead of God who made us. By refusing Him, women no longer know how to be women and men no longer know how to be men. We have lost our way and have been convinced by the secular view that it's all OK.

It worries me because I fear our next generation will lose all direction and become more blinded than ever before.

I can't understand, if we are a blessed nation under a biblical Constitution [again I refer you to section 116 of the Australian Constitution] , why there is such a push to change it? We will only start to tear away at the rich fabric and sustained values. Then God will take his hand off our nation and the lights will go out.

That is why I believe we need to protect marriage because it has been God-ordained from the beginning.

God told man to be united with his wife and to multiply on earth.

I had fame and success and a great husband but I always knew something was missing in my life. I used to think there had to be more to it.

I knew He was there but I didn't know how to make the connection. I didn't understand how God could be real in my life. But then I accepted Jesus Christ, and believed that He came to Earth as the son of God, to die for our sins.

Even then I didn't understand the power of the Bible, his word. If I knew then what I knew now I could have won six Wimbledons, not three. The New Testament is the greatest book on psychology. It shows you how to live victoriously. It's our TV guide to life. It has everything in there for every facet - even how to run a nation.

People think it's a book of fear but it is not. It's a book of love and a training manual for life that offers protection from sin. Life is but a wisp. So many turn to God on their deathbeds but if they accepted His love during life they would experience far more blessings. We will pass away, but the scriptures won't.

We need to turn our minds back to God and I still believe we have the capacity to make that change. Understand that there is a God and that He is real and that He can be part of your life.

A nun at my primary school once gave me the cane and it was one of the best lessons of my life. She could see the potential in me long before I did. She gave me a grounding for the future, for which I remain grateful. I didn't have an easy childhood but I had good families around me that sowed into my life. That's what our kids need right now. People who are willing to stand up for them, for our families, in a world where we have become far too scared.

Australian families are protected by the  Australian Constitution you have mentioned several times. I refer you back to Section 116.

It is a sad day when a newspaper encourages literacy skills which would not pass a 101 English subject at a University. I suggest in the future you actually do research into the documents you so unabashedly hide behind whilst encouraging the impressionable with your irrational fear of the unknown.

If you read more than the one book you keep falling back on, the unknown would become known. And you could relax and stop living in fear.
